Web 2.0 Is Definitely Not Just Hype
Robert Scoble has recently shared how to utilize the look of your blog to make it appealing. And he talked about what Kathy Sierra had done to her blog. Kathy is definitely someone who is good at what she is doing. At least, she knows how to attract attention of her readers. Like any other good blogger, she provides great content on her blog, but what sets her apart from the rest is that she is so dedicated to her blog entries, thus giving a great experience to her readers.
In this particular article, she wrote about the difference between buzzword and jargon. I have to agree with her when she says that buzzwords are merely, well, buzz. That means, it’s not something worth to be pursued further because it’s there to mislead or impress, while jargon is what matters most, because they’re usually the fixed terms being used by experts in a certain field we’re researching, in this case, she used web 2.0 as an example.
Although she does make her point by stating that web 2.0 is more than just a buzzword, there are other bloggers who just don’t agree with what she said (Dare Obasanjo among them) and focus on why web 2.0 is not a jargon. It’s true that web 2.0 can mean a lot of different things to different people. And it can either mean an Ajax based website, or social networking place like Myspace or Friendster and even video sharing website like Youtube.
Even though it must take time for the web 2.0 concept to be widely accepted and make sense to the masses, the end result will stop everyone from accusing it of being nothing but a hype.
