DivShare: a New Place To Store Your Files

It has become even easier to store your files online. There are multiple services available online already for files hosting but the new DivShare that was only presented yesterday has a number of advantages that many users will find helpful.

DivShare can be described as a “simple” file host: a user only needs to make minor efforts to host a file. You do not even need to register with DivShare to host your files. Besides, all the settings and controls are gathered within a single page. Box.net/lite and ImageShack follow this philosophy as well, but despite all the similarities DivShare does not duplicate these services fully.

DivShare is a universal file host. Unlike ImageShack, which is intended to upload images (it’s quite obvious from the website’s name anyway), DivShare enables user to upload files of any type. But the new service is really second to box.net/lite in terms of the total size of files that can be uploaded at a time: 100 Mb at DivShare versus 1 Gb at box.net/lite. But since we are talking about the size of files to be uploaded in a single run, this limitation is usually unnoticed by a user.

It is possible to upload a single file as well as a number of files at once. If you want to upload several files, you will need to check the ‘Got lots of images?’ box. At that if there are any images among the uploaded files, it will be possible to arrange them in a gallery.

One more advantage is that files are stored at DivShare for an unlimited period of time. The only condition is that an uploaded file needs to be downloaded – otherwise it will finally be removed after 30 days without any downloads.

After a file is uploaded DivShare generates several links: a direct link to the file, a link to the gallery (in case of uploaded images) and a link formatted to place on a webpage and in forums. Besides, it is possible to export the link to Facebook and AIM.

Currently, there are almost no tools to work with various types of files: only the gallery for uploaded images I’ve already mentioned. But that’s about everything. I only hope in future they will add at least a flash player for mp3 files.

I’ve already mentioned that it is not required to register to use the service. But if you spare several minutes and register for a free account, you will be able to use some advanced features, including monitoring of uploaded files: the number of uploaded files, upload time and status of the file. If it’s Live, everything is fine.

I can definitely say that DivShare is a useful service. Uploading speed is also perfectly fine, which is one of the most important aspects for many users. So if the speed remains as good when a significant number of users is achieved, I am quite sure DivShare will take a strong position among the files hosting services already available.
