People have been buying dual-cored powerful computing awesomeness for over a year now. Chipsets from AMD and Intel have been publicized to hold supreme number-crunching might, but sadly, their prowess for processing the newest in high-def content has gone untested by the majority of PC users. Until now.
Zudeo, a product created by the folks responsible for the Java-based torrent application Azureus, is simple. It’s a repository for anything HD. HD is a Web 2.0 fan fetish. It’s video that puts YouTube to shame; it makes you want to watch stuff. Yeah, okay, it’s cool to share the latest Daily Show highlight with friends and even once in a while browse the categories in the chance that you happen upon something actually good. But that’s hardly the case. It’s usually just OK, and it looks like Azureus’ developers weren’t happy with the YouTube “experience”.
I don’t blame them. If not for the interesting snippets on the site, I’d shun the mess altogether. Zudeo has launched with some clips that won’t be very appealing for anyone, but category bound to get the most attention is the HD archive. Don’t expect a wonderland just yet, however. No partnerships with the mainstream media have been struck, and just about every item they have to offer this moment were submitted either very recently or during a trial period. (Which, if there was one, I was not aware of. I’m always using Azureus to hand torrent downloads and uploads, but sadly, no news came my way before the launch.)
Spend some time downloading from Zudeo’s coffers. I’d enjoy the beer commercial posted to the front page, but alas, after downloading, my PowerBook could not process the intense pixel stream well enough. I wonder what I should wish for come Christmas?
