Palm has announced the release of the Treo 680! It will be available in 4 colors, red, orange, white, and gray/silver. This is aimed squarely at the mass market, and not specifically towards business users. This Treo will definitely get Palm back onto the map as they have redesigned the UI under the hood, so it’s more user friendly and very graphicy and they redesigned the Treo itself, now it’s slimmer and antennae-less. The really great part is that the unit has the SD I/O slot on the side with a cover so losing your SD card is nearly impossible now. I should know. I’ve lost quite a few.

So if you have been thinking about getting a smart phone but not wanting to pay the big bucks, check with your local GSM carrier when this thing officially comes out. Word is that the pricing will be sub $250.

I am very tempted to get one but the lack of wi-fi really put a damper on it, plus they didn’t upgrade the camera to the megapixel range yet, which for some people may be a deal breaker.
