Treo 650 vs 700w
Being an avid Treo 650 user, people have been asking what I thought about the new Treo 700w, which is the Treo that rus on Windows Mobile.
The only thing I can say to you is go by whatever your preference is. If you are an avid windows user, like many of us, it makes sense to go with the 700w, as it has an environment that is familar, a better camera at 1.3 MP pixel, and more memory. But it has a lower resolution screen at 240×240 vs 320×320 on the 650.
My personal take is that if you want true one handed usage, get the 650 because I had found that sometimes using the 700w, such as the contacts and calendars that I need to use the stylus, which defeats the purpose really. For instance, the only times I have used my stylus on the 650 is when browsing some websites, but everything else, it’s all one-handed usage, which is great.
Plus there are a lot of palm applications that have been built and refined over the years whereas the windows mobile programs are buggy and there isn’t that many out there.
If you need the latest and greatest, I suggest getting the 700w because more onboard memory is great for running a lot of applications, but if you are all about usage, then stick with the 650.
One thing that the 700w is good at is web browsing. It definitely is faster with the 3G wireless…but then again, I rarely use the Treo to surf or use it as a modem.
So it’s all up to your needs and wants.

.Mac should be open
I totally agree with this article that Apple should open up .Mac
Apple: Why not set .Mac free? by ZDNet’s Dan Farber — The Macworld Steve Jobs keynotes are a good way to start the year. Jobs tends to set the bar for what the user experience should be for computing devices, providing perspective on what others are doing to make the human-computer interface less one sided. Google and Yahoo could certainly take a lessons in how to make […]
Photo commerce
The future of e-commerce What will it look like a few years from now? Here’s my prediction.
E-commerce will always be around, but what will change is how you go about doing the actual shopping or finding the products. The future is in what I will call “photo commerce.”
What is photo commerce? It isn’t the buying and selling of pictures, but it will be the ability to find out about items by taking pictures of the item. You can do something similar by taking a picture of a barcode to find out more info about the product, but what I am proposing is using facial recognition software to identify objects/items in a picture and link them to an e-commerce site. For instance, if you hover over a picture of your friends, the clothes they are wearing and the items that are in the picture would display purchase info. It may not be for that exact item, but it could be close enough.
The greatest thing about this is that the existing infrastructure is there, but just needs to be tweaked. Using the collective minds to tag items such as using Flickr tags and the like could really help push this into reality.
What do you think?
Got Ego?

Will OS X run on PCs?
Due to EFI being used instead of a traditional BIOS, you won’t be able to run Windows XP on the new Macs, and shame on you if you do! But you can run Windows Vista. Again…shame on you!
But this begs the question…will the reverse be true? Will pcs be able to run OS X? I do hope so. In the long run, Apple would need to be able to have their OS work on other systems as their hardware still commands a premium. Now that they are using Intel processors, the PC world has to step up to the design standard that Apple has set in order keep competing, but then of course this will lead to further price reduction. In order to keep pace with PCs, Apple would have to begin selling their OS separately. This of course will bring out the problems that plague Windows, which is hardware support for multiple vendors.
