I recently got to experience the wonderful world of the tablet pc. I have long shunned this device because of its sheer awkwardness, but after having played with one for even just a little bit, I must say, i am very impressed. I love the handwriting recognition and the ability to really take some great notes and jot ideas.

I am currently looking into two different machines. The Fujitsu T4000 and the Toshiba M200. Both are really great machines, especially after you customize them but they both come out to just under $3k. That’s a lot of dough. Seriously. It’s a lot of dough. Like a lot. But the feel of it is really great. Depending on how work goes, I may make this my first purchase, even though I should be saving for a house, but the sheer usability is awesome. Now that I think about it, it actually makes more sense to buy it after I buy the house, because I’d be able to use it throughout the house and I would know if it is something I need rather than something I want.

I need to write this crap down so that I don’t end up buying something retardo.

Buy a new computer with dual tv tuners like the HP media series. Get a 24 inch lcd display like the Dell 2405FPW series. Ideally get the deal for the dell with the monitor. Only if it’s less than $1800 shipped.

The main things needed are the tuners, dual layer dvd player / burner at least 16X, run media center or wait until windows vista comes out, 1 GB ram and at least 256 mB of video.

Then add extra hard drives to the computer, at least 2 500 GB hard drives with room for at least 1 more, network for storage and build into a pvr.

Total cost needs to be less than $2500 shipped.

It’s nothing personal. It’s business.

Lately it seems that my life has been taking some interesting turns. I start a new job in a week which actually pays pretty well which will in itself open quite a few doors. The main one being that the option to buy a house is now up to bat. A couple of friends and I have decided on buying a house so that we can get a decent sized house as an investment. This means that for hte next few months at least, even though money is coming in, I still have to make sure that money isn’t going out. That’s going to be pretty hard with the holidays coming up and the prices on lcds dropping like crazy. But getting a house is more important than getting these small electronics. So no digital cable, no computer, no tv, and of course, no new car.
