The perfect Treo / handheld accessory
With all of the rumors of the Treo 670 being a Windows powered Treo, I have dug up some old ideas of what I’d like to have on my Treo / handheld smartphone. Aside from the 6GB microdrive and built in wifi and better camera, I wanted to include a couple of peripherals that would really make the Treo a device to be reckoned with.
One great peripheral would be creating a cable like the one for the OQO that has a plug for an external monitor, USB ports and audio outs. This cable would connect to the Treo’s data connector. Now I don’t know if this is possible, but the cable would need to have a video signal amplifier of some sort so that when you are viewing the Treo on an external monitor it won’t be at 320×320 resolution. This cable alone would rock. Also, when connected to the Treo it will also charge it.
The second and I must say is the ultimate in a handheld accessory is a laptop shell with a place for the Treo / smartphone to dock. I call it the SmartTop. The smartphone would dock where the mouse touchpad would go and the smartphone would be used as the mouse pad and secondary info screen. The laptop shell will basically just be a monitor and keyboard with the battery taking up most of the space along the bottom. This sized battery should give a long usage life, figure about 20 hours or so, and it will also charge the Treo. Obviously this will work only if the Treo or some other handheld device has the ability to output video and everything through its data connector. This will make the laptop shell very light as welll. It will also have a multi media card reader, like a 10 in 1 reader.
Creating this type of device would make it possible to really be mobile, since the only time you really to have a full fledged laptop is when you are doing some really power hungry stuff like graphic design and a whole lot of multitasking.
This is the ultimate way to go. Leave the laptop at home so that you can connect to it through the internet from your other laptop…the SmartTop. Truly mobile. Truly powerful. Truly awesome!
