Time Travel…
C|Net has an interesting little article about time travel and how physicists are trying to understand if and how time travel would be possible.
The grandfather paradox comes into play. This is the idea that if you could travel back in time, you shouldn’t be able to kill your grandfather, thereby negating your existence. But if you never existed, how did you go back in time to kill your grandfather? And so on and so on. A simple thing they actually say is that you can go back, but then you’ll probably miss, so there is no problem.
But here’s my theory. You can totally travel back in time. Except it won’t be with the use of wormholes so that you can physcially travel back in time. That’d be too insane, and take too much power and force that it may ultimately rip your atoms apart. Yes, I said atoms. The only thing that you would be able to do is to actually view the past. Not sure how this can be done, but I’d imagine that it’d be with the aid of quantum computers and particle accelerators that can create mini black holes. The way this would look is that you would be able to dial into whatever point of time including the gps coordinates, and then it would be like watching a tv show, except you’d actually be watching past/future events. The only limiting factor is that you cannot go past the point when the universe collapses and the point of the Big Bang.
Viewing the past and the future would be possible only if my theory on time is correct. That is that time is not linear, but circular.
Circular time? YES! I said it! Time is circular. How does that work? The universe expands and will eventually collapse on itself. After it collapses on itself it will then explode causing the BIG BANG and then the whole thing starts again. With each new beginning, you’d be living the same life and of course you’d be able to make minor changes but nothing major. I beleive that’s why psychics work. They can actually see through the ripples of time. But thats a different subject.
The current problem with people thinking about time travel, is that they keep wanting to be able to physically interact with it. If this is possible, you would actually create an alternate universe, because any small interaction can have profound changes. Similar to the butterfly effect. But then this will actually blow out the circular time theory, so physical interactions just won’t work. Imagine if you went back in time and you did something small, like move someones keys. This can have a major impact, because what if because he took a second longer to find his keys, he is a second late to wherever he was going. This causes him to get into an accident which would have otherwise been avoided, and he gets hurt badly. He is then unable to meet the woman of his dreams and the future son that created something huge is never born. Extreme? Yes. Possible? Yes. So let’s get it straight people! No physical time travel! Stop dreaming!
So to all of the physicists out there, let’s get out of thinking how we can actually travel into the past, and let’s get a jump on how we can actually view the past.
