What the tech?
What’s up with Cingular? I keep watching their commercials that say ‘raising the bar’ and it never bothered me up until right now. I just finished watching the commercial where a guy is trying to make a call outside of an indoor stadium and he doesnt have enough bars to make the call. Then his friend comes out and says he has 5 bars on his Razr phone. Why does this bother me? Granted I’ve been a Cingular customer for years, mainly because of their roll over crap, but seriously, I never have 5 bars. I barely get 3. And when I’m at a really populated city, I may get some bars, but its really sporadic. Now, I am talking about living in Los Angeles here.
This really blows. There really isn’t one great service that has any type of wonderful coverage. I can’t say how many times I’ve gotten dropped calls, or weird echoing or some other by product of having crappy coverage. When I lived in Korea I had coverage everywhere I went. I miss those days. I could be on the phone from the subway to the office and not have a dropped call or any other weird byproduct. The only thing I had to worry about was being able to hear my phone ringing in the loud bars.
Recently there was some spat from a Verizon Wireless executive where he states that people shouldnt expect to get coverage in their homes. If you lived out in the burbs, then this makes sense, but when you are driving through the city and your calls drop, now that is…err…uncalled for.
One of these days, the US needs to get their head out of their asses and get onto one phone standard, like Asia with CDMA, or Europe with GSM. I personally prefer CDMA because they have faster internet connections. We’re the world leader in everything, except mobile phones and service.
Stop the madness!
