There’s a great short piece over at latimes.com (registration required) about gps locator devices in mobile phones and other devices that allow for people to keep track on loved ones for a small fee per month. Aside from all of the peace of mind it can bring worried parents about their sons or daughters where-abouts, there is a HUGE potential for misuse of this great technology. Mainly stalkers! A lot of these small devices can now be bought and put into a car or other place and the stalker can totally keep tabs on you in real time from their home.
Need pictures? Just grab a satellite image now available online. (for security purposes, we wont link that site for you).
But all-in-all, because of GPS and it being the new “IT” add-on to mobile gear, expect to see privacy advocates up in arms in the not too distant future.
Overall, these types of devices would be great for renting at places like the mall or the amusement parks, where kids can easily get away from you and you can hunt them…I mean, find them quickly and easily without yelling or worrying your butt off.
