Whiningdog.net has a great review of the samsung PMP. I’m still on the fences about portable media players, because unless you have a long commute and are able to ride the subway or some other public transportation then what’s the point? These defintiely aren’t devices to be able to walk and watch.

Centrix PMP

Uncategorized No Comments »

Yet another reason why we should all move to Korea. They are about to launch another Personal Media Player (PMP). This one by Centrix.

Here are the specs so far.

20 gb hd
digital camera with flash
3.5 inch lcd
tv out - ntsc/pal
you can view jpg, bmg, gif, mpeg1/2/4, dat, avi, xvid, divx, wma (with transcoder)
listen to mp3, aac, ac-3

No pricing yet, but all of these features rock. I’m sure the price will rock as well.

AT&T Wireless which was acquired by Cingular earlier this year still retains the right to use the name AT&T Wireless. Lame. AT&T plans on partnering up with Sprint to offer services through their network. This is great news for Sprint, as this will boost its bottomline, but if NexTel’s customers also move onto Sprints network, this can potentially slow down the network and make it unreliable. But thats in the near-far future.

As for now though, customers will be the most confused when and if this thing launches because will they be part of the CIngular network or the Sprint network?

There’s a great short piece over at latimes.com (registration required) about gps locator devices in mobile phones and other devices that allow for people to keep track on loved ones for a small fee per month. Aside from all of the peace of mind it can bring worried parents about their sons or daughters where-abouts, there is a HUGE potential for misuse of this great technology. Mainly stalkers! A lot of these small devices can now be bought and put into a car or other place and the stalker can totally keep tabs on you in real time from their home.

Need pictures? Just grab a satellite image now available online. (for security purposes, we wont link that site for you).

But all-in-all, because of GPS and it being the new “IT” add-on to mobile gear, expect to see privacy advocates up in arms in the not too distant future.

Overall, these types of devices would be great for renting at places like the mall or the amusement parks, where kids can easily get away from you and you can hunt them…I mean, find them quickly and easily without yelling or worrying your butt off.

Bram Cohen is revered to downloaders as Napster Shawn Fanning was, and both are equally hated by media companies. Hollywood hates BitTorrent for it’s ease of use as well as the tremendous amounts of videos out there.

Wired.com has a great review and semi-interview with the creator Bram Cohen. What is interesting is how he came up with it and how he himself doesnt actually use the program because he doesn’t want to be the easy target.

I highly recommend this read. So go check it out! What are you waiting for?

Jerry Orbach, the greatest Law and Order cop has passed away from prostate cancer.

He was to head a new spin off called Law and Order: Trial by Jury.

Orbach will be missed. He was the best Law and Order character there is.

Richard Branson has a vision. And that vision is to offer trips to space on his VIrgin Galactic spaceways. After the SpaceShipOne won the Ansari X prize for $10 million, Richard Branson and his Virgin Group invested to create 5 ships that will carry passengers to space. Even if its only for a few minutes.

The initial cost would be too high, probably in the hundreds of thousands of dollars so it’ll only be a for the mega rich, but if this is going to be anything like air travel, the prices will go down enough to where regular joes like us can take these trips.

All-in-all, I applaud Branson for taking these kinds of risks, which is why he is my favorite entrepreneur, although his show “The Rebel Billionaire” kind of blows. But Branson is just the type of guy with enough balls and cash to bring this type of stuff to reality. This could create a whole new industry in itself!

The interesting thing about this really is that Branson actually trademarked the name VIrgin Galactic back in 1995. Talk about forward thinking.
